..The Heraean Games were held in Ancient Greece by unmarried virgins. These young maidens ran footraces in order of age..youngest to oldest. They ran in their tunics...which came to just above the knee.. the right shoulder bared to the breast. They ran with their hair hanging down and they celebrated their festival with sacrifices to the Goddess Hera.
I am not a maiden..far from it. But I remember running as a young girl, when I was a maiden. I remember the feeling of joy, and I think about these ancient Greek girls and the joy I know they felt. The feelings of joy transcends time and age.I am 58 now, and just recently started running...and the joy is still there. This is my running blog..it is dedicated to joy..and the women who run.
